Searched and rejected: stock-site Durga vectors (restrictive licences) and several Commons files that turned out to be unrelated
(for example `Ganesha.svg` is a chemical structure diagram).

## Map
Vector tiles by [OpenFreeMap](https://openfreemap.org), schema © [OpenMapTiles](https://www.openmaptiles.org/),
data © [OpenStreetMap contributors](https://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright) (ODbL). Rendered with [MapLibre GL JS](https://maplibre.org/) (BSD-3).
The cartoon style in `mapstyle.js` is original. Walking routes: public OSRM demo server at routing.openstreetmap.de.

## Pandal data
`pandals.json` merges two community datasets (duplicates within 150 m removed). Both READMEs state the MIT licence;
neither repository ships a standalone LICENSE file.

- **Bodhon – Durga Puja** — https://github.com/arkokundu500/Bodhon-Durga-Puja (`client/src/data/csv-pandals.json`)
- **Sharod Sathi – West Bengal Durga Puja Guide** — https://github.com/Shahin-github1/Durga-Puja-guide (`js/data/pandals.js`)

It also includes Durga Puja places from **OpenStreetMap** (rows with `"src": "osm"`), © OpenStreetMap contributors,
fetched with `tools/fetch-osm.mjs` and filtered to West Bengal's boundary (OSM relation 1960177). Because of those rows,
`pandals.json` as a whole is made available under the [Open Database License (ODbL)](https://opendatacommons.org/licenses/odbl/).
More places are looked up live from OpenStreetMap via the Overpass API (ODbL).

Rows with `"src": "dpk"` come from [Durga Puja Kolkata](https://www.durgapujakolkata.in) (durgapujakolkata.in).
Only facts are taken — each pandal's name, street address and map coordinates, read from the public schema.org data on its
page with `tools/fetch-dpk.mjs` (sitemap pages only, one request every 2 s, their robots.txt respected). Their descriptions,
ratings, tags and photos are not copied. Thank you to the volunteers who verify those locations.
Pandal themes, artwork and committee imagery belong to the respective puja committees.
Pandal positions change every year — verify before you go.

Hand-checked fixes (`tools/data/curation.json`): duplicate entries folded together, pins corrected against named Durga Puja
sites in OpenStreetMap (looked up with Nominatim), and a few well-known pandals the datasets missed, placed from OpenStreetMap.
Pins marked street-level in the app are approximate.

## Trails & transit
- `trails.json` — 28 curated trails written for this app (`tools/build-trails.mjs`), grouping pandals that sit close together.
Which pandals people hop together, and when, was researched from public pandal-hopping guides and news coverage
(facts only; every blurb is our own wording). Each trail's pandals fit within a few km of each other.
- `transit.json` — Kolkata Metro lines from OpenStreetMap route relations, plus suburban rail corridors whose station order is
listed in `tools/fetch-transit.mjs`; station positions © OpenStreetMap contributors (ODbL).
Ride times are estimates (waiting + per-stop minutes), not timetables.
